Accessibility Statement

Our commitment to making Keystral usable for everyone.

Last updated: February 2026

1. Our Commitment

At Keystral, we believe that education should be accessible to everyone. We are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including children and adults with disabilities. We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards to ensure our platform is inclusive and usable by all learners.

Accessibility is not just a legal requirement for us—it is a core value. Every child deserves the opportunity to learn and succeed, regardless of their abilities or the technologies they use to access our platform.

2. Standards We Follow

Keystral aims to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible for people with disabilities and more usable for everyone.

We also aim to comply with the UK Equality Act 2010 and the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) Accessibility Regulations 2018 where applicable.

Conformance to WCAG 2.1 Level AA means our content meets the following principles:

  • Perceivable: Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive
  • Operable: User interface components and navigation must be operable by all users
  • Understandable: Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable
  • Robust: Content must be robust enough to be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies

3. What We've Done

We have implemented numerous accessibility features throughout the Keystral platform, including:

Semantic HTML

We use proper HTML5 semantic elements (headings, lists, landmarks, etc.) to ensure our content is properly structured and navigable by assistive technologies.

Keyboard Navigation

All interactive elements on Keystral can be accessed and operated using only a keyboard. You can navigate through our platform using Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and arrow keys without requiring a mouse.

Screen Reader Support

We have optimised Keystral for compatibility with popular screen readers, including appropriate ARIA labels, roles, and live regions to announce dynamic content changes and interactive elements clearly.

Colour Contrast

Text and interactive elements meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA colour contrast requirements (minimum 4.5:1 ratio for normal text, 3:1 for large text and UI components). We do not rely on colour alone to convey information.

Focus Indicators

All interactive elements display clear, visible focus indicators when navigating with a keyboard, making it easy to see which element currently has focus.

Responsive Design

Our platform is fully responsive and adapts to different screen sizes and orientations. It works on desktop computers, tablets, and mobile devices, and supports browser zoom up to 200% without loss of functionality.

Alternative Text

All images, diagrams, and charts used in learning materials include descriptive alternative text for users who cannot see them.

Form Accessibility

All form fields have properly associated labels, clear error messages, and helpful instructions to ensure successful completion.

4. Known Limitations

While we strive for full accessibility, we recognise that some areas of our platform may still present challenges:

  • Some complex interactive diagrams and mathematical visualisations may have limited screen reader support. We are working on providing text-based alternatives.
  • Certain third-party content and embedded resources may not meet our accessibility standards. We are working with our content providers to address these issues.
  • Some dynamically generated content may occasionally have incomplete ARIA labels. We are continuously auditing and improving these areas.
  • PDF resources may not all be fully accessible. We are in the process of remediating existing documents and ensuring new documents meet accessibility standards.

We are actively working to resolve these limitations and improve the accessibility of all aspects of our platform.

5. Assistive Technologies

Keystral has been tested for compatibility with the following assistive technologies and browsers:

  • NVDA (NonVisual Desktop Access) with Chrome and Firefox on Windows
  • JAWS (Job Access With Speech) with Chrome and Edge on Windows
  • VoiceOver with Safari on macOS and iOS
  • TalkBack with Chrome on Android
  • Keyboard-only navigation across all major browsers
  • Browser zoom and text resizing up to 200%

We test with recent versions of these tools, but if you encounter compatibility issues with your assistive technology, please let us know.

6. Feedback & Reporting Issues

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of Keystral. If you encounter any accessibility barriers or have suggestions for improvement, please contact us:

When reporting an issue, please include:

  • The web page or feature where you encountered the problem
  • A description of the accessibility barrier
  • The assistive technology and browser you were using
  • Any other relevant details that might help us understand and resolve the issue

We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within 3 working days and to resolve issues within 30 days where possible. For more complex issues, we will provide a timeline for resolution.

7. Enforcement

We take accessibility seriously and are committed to meeting our legal obligations under the Equality Act 2010, which makes it unlawful to discriminate against people with disabilities.

If you are not satisfied with our response to your accessibility feedback, you may contact the Equality Advisory and Support Service (EASS) or the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC).

We conduct regular accessibility audits, both internally and with external specialists, to ensure ongoing compliance and continuous improvement. Our development team receives regular training on accessibility best practices and inclusive design.

Continuous Improvement

Accessibility is an ongoing commitment. We regularly review and test our platform, update our practices, and incorporate user feedback to ensure Keystral remains accessible to all learners. We publish updates to this accessibility statement as we make improvements.

Thank you for choosing Keystral. Together, we can make learning accessible for everyone.
