How does Keystral work?
Keystral is an adaptive learning platform that personalizes revision to your child's needs. Our system tracks their progress, identifies areas needing improvement, and uses spaced repetition to help them retain knowledge effectively. Questions adapt in difficulty based on their performance, ensuring they're always challenged at the right level.
Which subjects and exam levels do you cover?
We currently offer comprehensive coverage for 11+ exam preparation across all three major formats — GL Assessment, CEM, and FSCE (used by the Gloucestershire G7 grammars from 2027, plus Reading School, Chelmsford CCHS, the West Yorkshire grammar cluster, and others). Subjects: Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning, Non-Verbal Reasoning, plus KS2 creative writing. We also cover GCSE revision across Maths, English Language, English Literature, Sciences (Biology, Chemistry, Physics), Computer Science, Humanities and Languages. Everything is aligned to the England national curriculum.
How do I add my child to my account?
After signing up, you can add children from your Parent Dashboard. Click "Add Child", enter their name, year group, and select which subjects they're studying. Each child gets their own personalized learning path and progress tracking.
Can my child log in on their own?
Yes! Once you've added your child and set up their PIN (4-6 digits) from the Parent Dashboard, they can sign in independently at the Student Login page using your email, their first name, and their PIN. You'll also find a “Student? Log in with PIN” link on the main Sign In page.
What's the recommended study schedule?
We recommend 15-30 minutes per day, 4-5 days per week for best results. Our spaced repetition algorithm works most effectively with regular, consistent practice rather than long, infrequent sessions. Children can study at their own pace, and the system will adapt to their schedule.
Account & Billing
What subscription plans do you offer?
We offer three plans: Free (free forever) with 20 questions per day and basic progress tracking, Core (£19.99/month) with unlimited questions, full mock exams, AI tutor, and detailed analytics, and Pro (£29.99/month) adding up to 3 children and GCSE/11+ cross-access. All paid plans include a 5-day free trial. You can upgrade or cancel anytime from your account settings.
Can I cancel my subscription at any time?
Yes, you can cancel your subscription at any time from your Account Settings. Your access will continue until the end of your current billing period, and you won't be charged again. All progress and data are retained if you decide to resubscribe later.
How do I update my payment details?
Visit your Account Settings and navigate to the Billing section. You can update your card details, view payment history, and download invoices. All payment information is processed securely through our payment provider.
Is there a family discount for multiple children?
Our Pro plan supports up to 3 children under a single subscription. Each child gets their own personalised learning path, progress tracking, and adaptive question selection. The Free and Core plans each support 1 child profile.
Learning Features
What is the AI Tutor and how does it work?
Our AI Tutor (available on Pro plans) provides personalised help when your child gets stuck. They can ask questions about topics they're learning, request hints without revealing the full answer, and receive detailed feedback on their mistakes. The AI adapts its explanations to your child's age and understanding level.
How does the adaptive algorithm choose questions?
We use a Bayesian Knowledge Tracing (BKT) model combined with spaced repetition. The system estimates your child's mastery of each topic based on their answers, then selects questions that are optimally challenging. Topics needing review appear more frequently, while mastered topics are revisited at increasing intervals to reinforce long-term retention.
Can I track my child's progress?
Yes! Your Parent Dashboard shows detailed analytics including topics mastered, areas needing improvement, daily streak tracking, time spent learning, and performance trends over time. Core and Pro subscribers get detailed analytics, and Pro subscribers also receive personalised insights and study plans.
What types of questions are included?
We offer a variety of question types including multiple choice, true/false, short answer, diagram-based questions, and problem-solving tasks. Questions are carefully crafted by experienced educators and aligned with exam board specifications to ensure they're relevant and age-appropriate.
Technical Issues
The site isn't loading or is running slowly. What should I do?
First, try refreshing the page or clearing your browser cache. Make sure you're using an up-to-date browser (we recommend Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge). If problems persist, check your internet connection or try accessing the site from a different device. For ongoing issues, please contact our support team.
I'm having trouble logging in. How can I reset my password?
Click "Forgot Password" on the login page and enter your email address. We'll send you a secure reset link. If you don't receive the email within a few minutes, check your spam folder. If you're still having issues, contact support.
My child's progress isn't being saved. What's wrong?
This is usually caused by browser privacy settings or extensions that block cookies. Make sure cookies are enabled for keystral.com and that you're not in private/incognito mode. If using an ad blocker, try temporarily disabling it. Your child should also click "Submit" after completing each question to ensure answers are recorded.
Which devices and browsers are supported?
Keystral works on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and smartphones. We support the latest versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. For the best experience, we recommend using a tablet or larger screen, especially for diagram-based questions. A stable internet connection is required.
